Our story
Studio Taranga was founded in 2024 by Tara Allison, a London-based interior design studio built around a simple idea — that your home should hold the story of who you are, not just how you live.
Taranga — my real name — comes from my Sri Lankan heritage. In Sanskrit, it means "rhythmic waves." It felt fitting for a design philosophy built around life's ebb and flow, creating spaces that echo the different chapters and eras we move through as we grow.
My approach to interiors is rooted in a 20+ year career in fashion design, where I learned the art of balancing the fluid evolution of personal style with the discipline of timeless design. This ethos runs through everything at Studio Taranga — creating contemporary, layered spaces that also honour heritage.
Almost two years in, we've had the privilege of working with amazing and trusting clients, and collaborating with talented craftspeople and artists along the way. It's been a pleasure to see the studio slowly grow — and a huge thanks to the dream team behind every project, and to everyone who's been part of the journey so far.
Philosophy
Material first
We choose materials for their honesty — how they age, how they feel underhand, how they hold light at different hours of the day.
Restraint as luxury
The most considered rooms are often the quietest. We resist the impulse to fill, and trust that what remains is enough.
Architecture as foundation
Interior design begins with the building. We work with the existing structure — its proportions, its light, its history — rather than against it.
Longevity over trend
We design for the long term. A room should feel as right in twenty years as it does on the day it is completed.
